Competitions
When the club started in 2008 all of our photo competitions were print. Digital competitions were soon introduced, alternating with print competitions. We eventually separated digital and print competitions, with digital competitions held every month and the completely separate print competitions held every two months. During that time we had two Photographers of the Year, one for Print and one for Digital. Eventually the print competition became less and less popular and died of natural causes, leaving only the monthly digital competition.

July 2013

The club's main event in 2013 was the "Snapped" exhibition at the Lady Denman Maritime Museum - an exhibition of photographs from members of the three Shoalhaven photographic groups - the Bay and Basin Camera Club, the Milton Ulladulla District Camera Club and the Shoalhaven Photographic Club. 2008 - How We Began

FIRST MEETING
Mary Furness wanted to start a camera club in the Bay and Basin area, so after putting an advertisement in a local magazine, and publicizing the formation of a club by word of mouth, a group gathered at Mary's home at 7.30pm on 21st August, 2008. The aim was to set up some activities we could do as a group.

WHAT WE DID
We talked about our cameras and showed some photos - prints and on a screen - of some of our shots. We talked about what we wanted to learn and do.

WHAT WE WANTED TO DO
We wanted the group to be informal and fun; to get our cameras off auto; to learn a bit more about photo enhancing computer techniques; to get inspiration from others; to learn more about our cameras; to have a theme each month to photograph; to bring our photos to the meeting to have friendly critiques; to invite guest speakers on aspects of photography; to go out together for photo shoots and, in general, improve our photography.

OUR DISCUSSION
• Sue offered to send a checklist entitled "Know your Camera" for us to complete for next meeting.
• Meeting places - Vicki said she would follow up a possible room at the Lady Denman Museum.
• People sharing their areas of expertise.
• Having a question and answer session at each meeting.
• Having guest speakers and photo judges but not yet.
• Keeping it fun and informal but setting goals so we have something definite to do.

DECISIONS
1. We will meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7.30pm.
2. We will have a group photo shoot on the last Sunday of the month at 3pm at a spot to be decided to match our monthly theme (this was later changed to the 4th Sunday of the month and it was decided that the shoot did not have to match the theme).
3. We will spread the word to get more members so we have a viable base group.
4. We will monitor meeting numbers to ascertain if we need a permanent meeting spot.
5. We will discuss an aspect of camera knowledge each meeting.
6. We will bring a maximum of two theme photos and two general photos to each meeting to be shown and discussed.

We originally had an additional section of "Extreme" but felt that having 33% of our photography directed towards "Extreme" photography was excessive. "Extreme" photography was defined as any photo which has undergone a substantial degree of software adjustment, or a photo which displays significantly different effects which the photographer considers to be extreme.

Originally also, each of the three sections were divided into two sub-sections of colour, and monochrome. This effectively directed 50% of our photography towards monochrome images, which again was deemed excessive.

However, monochrome and extreme photography should both be included annually in our monthly set subjects.
